A member of militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) was killed in central Kashmir's Budgam on Friday, while a protester sustained bullet injuries in the subsequent clashes with security forces near the encounter site.
“On a credible input, a predawn cordon and search operation was jointly launched by police and security forces in Kralpora village of Checkpora area in Budgam. The militant was killed in the gunfight and his body has been retrieved,” said the police.
From the “incriminating materials” recovered, he has been identified as Zarar from Pakistan, the police said, adding, “He was wanted for his complicity in terror crimes.”
The injured protester was identified as Shabir Ahmad, 30.
“He was admitted in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital. He sustained bullet injuries in the abdomen and will undergo a surgery,” said officials.
The security forces used pellets, tear smoke shells and live rounds to chase away the youths hurling stones at them in Kanapora area, which is very close to Srinagar.
