Where does your city’s metro rail network stand?

A comparison of metro rail networks across various cities in India shows that there are wide variations in the average fares charged. While a metro ride in Mumbai costs the most, it is the least in Kochi.

The below visualisations plot ridership data, average fare and operational network across metros. Circle sizes correspond to population.

Ride history The below graph depicts the years when metro rail networks were sanctioned (yellow) and when operations began (green). Kolkata, the oldest metro in India, opened to commuters in 1984. The year 2017 saw three metro systems open to the public. In several cities, different phases of the metros are still under construction.
