After a long wait, Congress leaders from Arunachal Pradesh, who rebelled against their own party leader and State Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday.
The meeting, however, ended up in a gridlock with dissident leaders demanding sacking of Mr.Tuki along with the party general secretary for Arunachal Pradesh, V.Narayanaswami.
The 21 MLAs, who claimed to have been waiting in Delhi for three months to meet the party high command, made it clear to Mr.Gandhi that they still owed their allegiance to Congress.
A dissident leader told The Hindu that Mr.Gandhi expressed his unhappiness to the rebels saying that instead of going public they should have raised their complaints within the party confines. But the leaders reiterated their view to Mr. Gandhi “that the future of Arunachal Pradesh and that of the Congress is not at all secure in the hands of autocratic leader like Mr. Tuki.” The leaders suggested Mr. Gandhi that Mr.Tuki should be replaced with “a more matured and visionary leader,” Kalikho Pul, who’s the leader of dissident MLAs.
