Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday cautioned people against attempts by communal forces to divide the nation.

He was speaking at Sultanpur Lodhi, where the Punjab government launched the year-long celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev. Mr. Singh exhorted people to participate in the celebrations with enthusiasm and gaiety, regardless of caste, colour, creed and religion.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said his government would observe the event as a “non-political and bi-partisan affair”.

The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government for supporting the State in holding the event.
