Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe have instructed the authorities concerned to accelerate the work on the Master Plan for development of the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor by fiscal year 2014.
A joint statement at the end of the summit-level meeting between the two Prime Ministers here on Wednesday noted the importance of development in the Chennai-Bangalore areas while renewing their commitment to reinforcing their cooperation.
It said Dr. Singh directed the authorities to accelerate the improvement of infrastructure such as ports, roads, bridges and industrial parks, as well as electricity and water supply in Ennore, Chennai and adjoining areas and to monitor the progress, utilising the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Programme (TNIPP).
The TNIPP, to be formed with the assistance of Japan International Co-operation Agency, seeks to increase flow of funds to build quality urban infrastructure in the State. It will work on easing bottlenecks faced by investors through policy changes and correcting infrastructural inadequacies.
