A 25-year-old was arrested by the city police for allegedly setting ablaze 26 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler in Pune’s Parvati area on Sunday.

Police sources said the accused, Nilesh Patil, allegedly torched the vehicles in an inebriated state.

The vehicles were parked in an open field next to the Parvati police station. Patil set fire to one of the two-wheelers in the early hours and the blaze soon spread, engulfing all the two-wheelers and a tempo parked nearby.

The Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and prevented the fire from spreading further.

According to the Fire department, this is the eighth such incident in Pune in a little over two years.

Last year in May, seven two-wheelers were gutted in Pune’s Uttam Nagar locality in Katraj.

In April last year, the police arrested a transport dealer for torching 16 vehicles in suburban Katraj. About 20 families in the vicinity had to be evacuated then.
