Man from Liberia quarantined ‘to prevent Ebola spread’

But Health Ministry claims he is cured and still kept in isolation

November 19, 2014 12:19 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:54 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Ebola virus was found in the semen of a 26-year-old man who had travelled from Liberia to India and reached Delhi on November 10. He is under treatment and cannot transmit the virus as he has been kept in an isolation facility.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, the Union Health Ministry said the semen tested positive for the virus on two occasions. Currently, this person does not have any symptoms of the disease.

“He is a recovered case of Ebola and is in the shedding stage. He can pass on the virus through sexual contact and has therefore been kept in isolation. This individual needs preventive care as his treatment is over.

“However, he would be kept under isolation till such time his body fluids test negative and he is found medically fit to be discharged,” the statement said.

Asserting that there is no threat of contamination from this individual, the Ministry said: “It is reiterated that the person concerned is a treated and cured case of Ebola Virus Disease.”
