West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday called on her predecessor Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at his residence and invited him to the inaugural ceremony of the 17th Kolkata Film Festival on Thursday.

Pre-occupied

Thanking her for the invitation, Mr. Bhattacharjee reportedly expressed his inability to attend the event as he was preoccupied.

A film buff himself, Mr. Bhattacharjee has long been associated with the Kolkata Film Festival over the past years.

Attaining a stature

As Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs in the past, even before he became Chief Minister, Mr. Bhattacharjee was instrumental in initiating the festival which has attained a stature of its own over the years.

Ms. Banerjee also extended invitations to Mr. Bhattacharjee's wife and daughter, it was learnt.
