West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday exuded confidence that the Trinamool Congress would emerge victorious in the Assembly polls.
“In a democracy, people have the final say. Our record on development makes us confident that we will win again in 2016,” Ms. Banerjee wrote on Twitter on Saturday, a day after she commented on similar lines during a live interview at a private Bengali news channel.
Taking questions from journalists, citizens and celebrities, she touched on several topics about the State’s development.
On the controversial comments made by veteran Left Front leader Gautam Deb, who had hinted at a possible alliance with the Congress for the Assembly polls, Ms. Banerjee said: “It is their [CPI-M] prerogative. I have nothing to say. Some Communists misused Communism that led to their fall. People have rejected the CPI-M.”
Interestingly, while she refused to comment on which party would be the principal opposition in the 2016 polls, she said one would have to wait to see if there were any alliances.
