Union Minister Salman Khurshid said on Wednesday said that “vulgar display” of austerity should be discouraged.

“Just as a vulgar display of wealth is to be deprecated or discouraged, I think a vulgar display of austerity is also be discouraged. Austerity is something intrinsic and very personal,” Mr. Khurshid, Minority Affairs Minister, said while addressing a programme organised here to deliberate on ‘Towards a World Without Weapons of War and Violence.’

Austerity drive has been initiated by Congress as an “idea” and “a commitment,” Mr. Khurshid said. “If there is anything we can do. If there is something we can do. It [austerity] doesn’t have to be a display,” Mr. Khurshid said.
