‘India ready to cut troops if Pakistan acts’

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is willing to limit troops along the border if Pakistan ends infiltration by terrorists into India, according to U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, who met Dr. Singh in New Delhi recently.

“In India, our congressional delegation met with Prime Minister Singh. I put the question to him, would he be willing to have a limitation with Pakistan on the number of troops on the border, which would liberate Pakistani troops to help us fight al-Qaeda in Pakistan,” the Senator said on the Senate floor on Monday night.

“Prime Minister Singh said he would, if the terrorists would be stopped from coming into India, as they blew up the hotel in Mumbai more than a year ago,” the Senator said.
