Louis Berger bribery case: Premises of Goa ex-CM Digambar Kamat raided

While the ED conducted raids at four locations in Panaji, the Goa Police Crime Branch searched a premise in Margao.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Goa and Crime Branch of Goa Police conducted raids at five premises of former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, including his residence and office on Thursday morning.

The residence and offices of close associates and relatives of Mr. Kamat were also raided in connection with multi-crore Louis Berger bribery case. It has been alleged that some ministers and officials of the State government had taken bribe for awarding consulting work for water supply and sewerage work in 2010 when Mr.Kamat was the Chief Minister.

While ED is probing the case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the State Crime Branch is probing it under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Mr. Kamat has been questioned four times in connection with the case.

He was granted an anticipatory bail by Special court under Prevention

of Corruption Act on Wednesday. The crime branch is likely to challenge the bail in the High Court on Thursday.

According to sources in the Enforcement Directorate, the ED officials along with the State police sleuths raided four places whereas crime branch raided one place. The documents recovered during the raids would be processed and then decision would be taken, the sources in the Enforcement Directorate said.

Earlier, the house and residence of former Public Woks Department Minister Churchill Allemao were also raided by Crime Branch. Mr. Allemao is in judicial custody now.
