The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die soon after it met at 11 a.m. on Friday, marking the end of a tumultuous Budget session of Parliament in which 147 hours of work were lost due to disruptions on regional demands.
The House could practically transact no business after noon in the second half of the session, with the AIADMK members protesting in the Well of the House for the constitution of a Cauvery management board.
Even the no-confidence notices moved by members of the Telugu Desam Party, the YSR Congress Party, the Congress, the CPI (M) and others could not be taken up, as the House was not in order.
Amid protests in the Well of the House at 11 a.m on Friday, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan requested members to return to their seats, saying that she was going to adjourn the House sine die as she could not take up the no-confidence notices in the absence of order in the House.
She then read out a short summary of the Budget session, which was the 14th session of the 16th Lok Sabha.
The Speaker said there were 28 sittings, lasting 33 hours and 50 minutes in the session, which began with the presentation of the Budget.
There were 21 sittings in the second half of the Budget session alone, she added.
The House discussed the motion of thanks to the President's address for more than 10 hours. The Budget was discussed for 12 hours and 13 minutes, she said.
Five Bills passed
In the second half of the session after the post-Budget recess, the demands for grants were made and the Appropriation Bill and the Finance Bill were passed.
Five Bills were passed, the Speaker said, including the Finance, Gratuity and Specific Relief Bills.
Just 0.6 questions were answered orally a day amid the din and Ministers made 43 statements on important issues.
Underlining that 147 hours and 45 minutes were lost to disruptions, the Speaker said the House is a "pure" forum to raise issues and while she understood members' concerns, they should look at the country's overall interest too.
She thanked MPs across parties for the support she got from them in organising the National Legislative Conference that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present in the House.
She said she was happy that whenever important issues of national importance came up, the fraternity of legislative bodies came to the fore.
She informed the House that the Western Court Annexe buliding was complete and was inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
Ms. Mahajan adjourned the House sine die soon after the recital of Vande Mataram.

The Rajya Sabha was on Friday adjourned sine die, concluding the Budget session, half of which was completely washed out in disruptions.
The House worked for 45 hours in around 30 sittings and lost 120 hours in disruptions.
