Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural Independence Day speech from Red Fort came in for mixed response across parties with the Left parties criticising the move to replace the Planning Commision with a new body.
Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi of the Congress complimented the Prime Minister for striking the right notes on girl child, manufacturing sector, digital India and poverty. Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed however said Mr. Modi delivered a “zero effect” speech.
PTI adds:Left parties criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden Independence Day speech, with the CPI(M) questioning the announcement that the government will abolish the Planning Commission, while CPI charged that he failed to talk about empowering people.
“There is a lot of gap between the walk and the talk. Always these yojnas [schemes] are implemented by the Planning Commission. Now you [Modi] said you will dismantle it. So who is going to do it [implement schemes] and who is going to monitor it,” said CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury.
