Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje criminally culpable: Congress

Party’s Rajasthan unit to hit streets from today.

June 18, 2015 03:20 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:59 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Congress on Wednesday said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje were guilty of constitutional impropriety, misuse of office, and criminally culpable for helping former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi secure travel papers despite being a “fugitive” as per the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Of the view that Ms. Raje does not even have the excuse of “humanitarian act” — given by Ms. Swaraj as explanation for helping Mr. Modi — the Rajasthan unit of the Congress has decided to launch a State-wide agitation on Thursday to press for the Chief Minister’s resignation.

“The very fact that Ms. Raje backed Mr. Modi’s immigration application in August 2011 on the condition that it would not be made known to Indian authorities shows that she was aware of doing something wrong. She is guilty of criminal complicity in promoting and protecting a fugitive of law and getting favours in return,” said Congress communications in-charge Randeep Surjewala. Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot said right through Ms. Raje’s earlier stint as CM, Mr. Modi used to run the State from behind-the-scenes.
