Yatra to begin two-day Alappuzha tour today

The Gandhi Yatra, organised by the Gandhi Peace Mission, in association with the State government and various organisations, will tour Alappuzha district on Monday and Tuesday.

The yatra that began from Thiruvananthapuram on October 2 is taken out to commemorate the centenary of Gandhi’s return from South Africa and will tour all districts.

The programme aims at spreading the message of a narcotics-free, non-violent Kerala.

Receptions

The yatra will be accorded a reception at Chengannur KSRTC bus stand at 10 a.m. on Monday.

It will reach Alappuzha beach on Monday evening after passing through Harippad and Ambalappuzha where receptions will be accorded.

A seminar on Mahatma Gandhi and communal harmony, as part of Gandhi Jayanti week celebrations, will be organised at Mavelikara on Monday by the Information and Public Relations Department. Writer Chunakkara Janardhanan will present the theme. Academics and intellectuals will participate.

The yatra will be accorded a reception at the venue.
