Writer recalls literary contributions of Azhikode

The contributions of Dr Sukumar Azhikode to Malayalam literary criticism as well as journalism were immense, said Mr Permbadavom Sreedharan, novelist and president of Kerala Sahitya Akademi.

Mr Sreedharan, better known as Perumbadavom, was delivering the Dr Sukumar Azhikode commemoration speech, organised by the Pathanamthitta Press Club, at YMCA Hall here on Wednesday afternoon.

According to him, Dr Azhikode’s critical text, ‘Aasante Seethakavyam’ has carved a special niche for himself in the field of Malayalam literary criticism.

Dr Azhikode was a great literary personality who knew what he was and his great works have created new waves and dimensions in the field of Malayalam literary criticism, said Mr Sreedharan.

Mr Sreedharan said Dr Azhikode, in his pursuit to find the truth of truth, had also left his own golden marks in the field of Malayalam journalism too.

Prof T.K.G. Nair, State Library Council member; Mr Ravi Varma Thampuran, journalist and Mr Biju Kurien, Press Club secretary, also spoke.

Mr Sanu George Thomas, Press Club president, presided over the meeting.
