Writer passes away

N.K.A. Latheef has many books to his credit

Gandhian and award-winning writer N.K.A. Latheef died here on Thursday. He was 80.

A former secretary of the Samastha Kerala Sahitya Parishad and a serving member of its current executive committee, Latheef entered the world of literature quite early in life and has many books to his credit. He was also a prominent public figure and was twice elected councillor.

A senior leader of the Congress, he had served as Ernakulam District Congress Committee secretary and a member of the All India Congress Committee.

Latheef also served in the editorial committee of Congress mouthpiece Veekshanam . He was also a member of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, programme advisory committee of the Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram stations of All India Radio and the Kerala Language Institute and Kerala State Haj Committee.

The burial will be held at Mattancherry at 10 a.m. on Friday.
