The Uravu Indigenous Science and Technology Study Centre is organising an international workshop on bamboo design at its centre at Thrikkaipetta in the district from May 28 to June 26.
The programme is being organised in association with Fetzer Foundation, U.S., and INHALF habitat forum, Pune. The workshop would focus on finding ways to demonstrate bamboos’ versatility as a building material, study living conditions of bamboo workers, and explore ways to enhance their employment prospects, the organisers said in a release here.
The main activity of the programme includes design of two houses with 300 to 600 sq ft each as per the norms of the Indira Avas Yojna; one community centre; and furniture sets using bamboo as the principal material by teams of trained architects, furniture designers, and traditional bamboo craftsmen.
Experts from various parts of the country would handle classes on various aspects of the topic, the organisers added.
Two houses, a community centre, and furniture sets using bamboo as main material will be designed.
