Work on 1,292 houses for flood-hit completed

Rebuilding taken up under LIFE, Care Home projects

Construction of 1,292 houses destroyed in last year’s floods has been completed under various schemes in the district.

The floods of August 2018 destroyed 3,783 houses in the district.

In all, 2,378 beneficiaries opted for the LIFE Mission scheme under which the owners themselves are constructing houses.

Instalments

They are given money in three phases. All were given the first instalment of ₹95,100. A total of ₹22.61 crore was utilised for this. As second instalment ₹26.20 crore was given (₹1,52,450 each) to 1,719 beneficiaries.

In all, 1,048 families got ₹1,52,450 (total ₹15.97 crore) as third instalment. Work on 786 houses was completed under this scheme.

Owners of 500 houses opted for the second scheme ‘Care Home’ implemented by cooperative societies, for which ₹4.75 crore has been distributed. In all, 374 houses were constructed under the scheme.

Puramboke land

Twenty families had lost land and houses in the floods. Land for 15 families has been identified and work on the houses is progressing. Efforts are on to find land for others.

Houses of 223 families who stayed in puramboke land were destroyed. Efforts are on to rehabilitate them.

Organisations’ help

Land has been identified for rehabilitating 70 families, who reside in places marked as landslide-prone areas. Work of houses are progressing for them.

Various organisations are sponsoring construction of 138 houses in the district.

₹10,000 emergency aid

A financial aid of ₹27. 46 crore has been distributed to 2,888 beneficiaries in the district. An emergency support of ₹10,000 was distributed to 1,25,932 beneficiaries whose houses were flooded. In all, 20,874 houses were damaged in the floods in the district. To those affect, ₹159.79 crore has been distributed.
