Women's Commission member Rukmini Bhaskaran has said that the majority of cases reaching before the commission related to family matters followed by disputes between neighbours.
At the conclusion of a two-day sitting in Painavu and Kattappana on Sunday and Monday, Ms Bhaskaran said that disputes between husband, wife and other family members, demand for financial support and allegations of husbands not looking after their wives also formed a major part of the cases.
“Disputes by neighbours over silly issues also reached before the commission,” she said.
However, she said some cases that reached before the commission were serious and needed immediate attention. Children not taking care of parents and alcohol addiction of men, leading to quarrel in the family also reached before it.
Some of the cases are sent for police verification and follow-up action in addition to those referred to Jagratha Samithis.
At Monday's sitting here, 37 cases reached before the commission, of which 13 cases were settled.
