Woman run over by train, suicide suspected

: In a gruesome incident, the head of a woman who committed suicide got entangled beneath the engine of a speeding train at Eravipuram here and was noticed when the train reached the Thiruvananthapuram Central station.

The torso with arms and legs was found by the side of the tracks.

The police identified the deceased as Latha, 46, a resident of Valathungal. They said the woman is suspected to have committed suicide on Sunday following financial distress.

Severed

The engine crew of the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Jan Shatabdi Express were not aware that the head had severed from the body and had got entangled beneath the engine.

Railway employees noticed it when the train reached Thiruvananthapuram.

Latha is survived by two daughters. She lost her husband 14 years ago. The woman earned her living by working as a domestic help.

She had married off her elder daughter, Aswathi, and was preparing to give her younger daughter in marriage during this Onam season, her relatives told the police.

The Railway Police brought her head to Eravipuram and the body was handed over to her relatives after autopsy at the district hospital on Monday.
