The Kerala Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board is planning to extend free cancer treatment for its members as it celebrates its silver jubilee year.

The board, in association with the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, had come out with a nuclear medicine specialty centre thereby ensuring free cancer treatment to its members, board chairman K. Chandrababu told a press conference here on Monday. Members of other welfare boards and the public could avail themselves of the facility by paying a small sum, he said.

The board had also introduced Abhayam, a scheme to extend financial assistance to the tune of Rs.3 lakh to 1,000 persons to buy houses.

The board presently had 18 lakh members, he said. — Staff Reporter
