VS, Pillai lock horns over KC(B)’s LDF entry

The remarks of Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V.S. Achuthanandan against the Left Democratic Front decision to induct four parties triggered a war of words between him and Kerala Congress(B) chairman R.Balakrishna Pillai on Friday.

Referring to the LDF decision to include the Kerala Congress(B), Indian National League, Loktantrik Janata Dal and Kerala Congress(Democratic), Mr.Achuthanandan made pointed remarks against Mr.Pillai.

He said the LDF should not become a sanctuary for communal forces, especially those professing patriarchal views on gender equality.

Referring to the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala, he said those nurturing views against the verdict would be a liability for the front. The LDF should be a camp of those professing deep insights on equality, democracy, and socialism.

Mr.Pillai said he had never been a votary of the upper or lower caste politics but had a cosmopolitan outlook.

The Kerala Congress(B) had been cooperating with the LDF since the local body elections and its entry to the front was only a normal procedure.

Mr.Pillai also said he was unaware of Mr.Achuthanandan’s statement.

He reiterated his stance on the Nair Service Society and said the women’s wall planned on January 1 was a government programme beyond caste and community considerations.
