UDF not banking on CPI(M) dissensions: Chandy

March 10, 2012 10:05 am | Updated 10:05 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The United Democratic Front (UDF) is confident of the outcome of the Piravom byelection and need not yearn to benefit from dissensions in the Communist Part of India (Marxist), Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Reacting to the resignation of CPI(M) MLA R. Selvaraj from the Assembly and party positions on Friday, Mr. Chandy said the UDF government was seeking people's mandate at Piravom on its own merit. Mr. Chandy refrained from commenting on reports that Mr. Selvaraj's resignation was prompted by intra-party differences. If such reports are true, it shows that the problems in the CPI(M) are beyond the control of the leadership.
