At least two persons were killed and several others were injured seriously when a jeep carrying estate workers overturned at Pulikuthu, near Bodimettu, on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi national highway on Monday evening.
Those killed have been identified as Bodinayakanur residents Kannan, 40, and Dhanalaksmi, 45.
Kannan was the driver of the jeep.
According to reports reaching here, there were around 20 persons, mostly women workers, in the jeep and they were returning after work from a cardamom plantation at Poopara.
Down hairpin bend
The driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a hairpin curve on the narrow ghat road near Kattadikavala.
Women workers reach the cardamom plantations in the High Ranges from villages in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu daily.
Those injured have been admitted to the Theni Medical College and the condition of four of them is stated to be serious.
