Two killed and three injured in separate accidents at Vempally and Pala

A 22-year old man was killed and three of his friends injured when their vehicle rammed into a tree at Vempally early on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at around 4.20 a.m. when the deceased Nishad of Badhushah Manzil near Athirampuzha, along with his brother Anshad, and friends Sinoj and Anoop were returning back to their homes in Kottayam after seeing off a friend at the Cochin International Airport.

According to the police, Nishad, who was driving the Hyundai i10 car, lost control while entering the Vempally bridge and was unable to steer away the vehicle from the tree. The victims were rushed to a private hospital at Thellakom where Nishad succumbed to his injuries.

After conducting inquest, the body was later shifted to the Kottayam Medical College hospital, where post mortem was conducted. The conditions of the others were stable, the police said.

Following the accident, traffic along the M.C. Road was obstructed for a short while. The police personnel from the Kuravilangadu police station later managed to remove the fully damaged car using a crane. A case has been registered in connection with the accident.

In a separate incident, 63-year old woman succumbed to profuse bleeding after a tipper lorry had run over her feet at Pulliyanoor near Pala.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 8.15 a.m. when the speeding lorry had run over her feet and sped away without stopping. The victim was left to bleed on the roadside for a short while, following which passers-by rushed her to the Kottayam Medical College hospital. However, she was pronounced dead by the doctors at the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Radhakumari, who hailed from Kuttikattu house at Pandathala near Pulliyanoor.
