Two hacked in CPI(M)-RSS clashes

Tension prevailed in Kadakkarappally, near Cherthala, where activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) clashed a day ago.

Three CPI(M) workers, including Kadakkarappally grama panchayat member T.V. Devadas, were brutally hacked, allegedly by RSS activists, late on Sunday. The injured persons were rushed to the Cherthala taluk hospital and later taken to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

Past clashes

The condition of two persons, who suffered head injuries, remained critical.

According to police sources, the incident was being viewed in the context of similar clashes that had taken place in the area nearly two months ago.

Considering the volatile situation that existed, the presence of police personnel has been ensured in the region.

The Pattanakkad police, who have registered a case, were yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.
