A special team investigating the triple murder at Parambuzha near here has arrested the prime accused Narender from his hideout at Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, police officials said on Friday.
The accused who joined the dry-cleaning centre run by the victims nearly two months back had given his name as Jai Singh.
However, the police later found that the mobile connection he was using was taken under the name Nihal Singh. The accused was missing from the laundry shop from May 18 night, after the crime was executed.
The special team recovered a mobile phone of one of the victims and a bag from the place Narender was hiding. The police did not confirm whether more than one person was involved in the crime.
The police team was led by Saju Varghese, Circle Inspector, Pampady.
However, more than one migrant labourer had been under police custody and at least one of them had close contact with the prime accused.
The police said the investigation team was basically chasing the mobile phone used by the accused, which helped in nabbing him. The team had also taken the help of the Firozabad police in the last lap of the investigation
In fact, another team which pursued another mobile had gone to Mumbai but could neither nab the accused nor trace the mobile.
Former Health Department employee Lalason, 72, his wife Presanna Kumari, 54, health inspector at the General Hospital here, and their son Praveen Lal, 28, were found hacked, electrocuted, throats slit, and with acid smeared on their faces. The laundry shop is near the family’s house.
One of the employees, a migrant labourer Jai Singh alias Nihal Singh alias Narender was found missing. Also missing were two mobile phones and some gold and cash. The police had formed five teams under the supervision of District Police Superintendent M.P. Dinesh.
Narender will be brought to Kottayam after producing him at a court in Firozabad and completing other formalities, the police said.
