Panchayat secretary ordered closure

June 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

The Tribunal for Local Self-government Institutions, Thiruvananthapuram, has stayed the order of the Vadasserikkara grama panchayat secretary, denying licence to WimRock Granites for granite quarrying at Thekkummala.

In its order issued on Wednesday, the tribunal, chaired by M.R. Anitha, had stated that the petitioner (managing director of the quarry), Raju Thomas, has succeeded in establishing a prima facie case entitling him to get a stay as prayed for.

Time limit

The order of the tribunal says the impugned order (of the Vadasserikkara panchayat secretary) is stayed till the disposal of the revision petition.

“Mr. Thomas said he had submitted the application to the panchayat secretary for renewal of licence of the granite quarry with all supporting documents on time. However, the secretary had ordered closure of the quarry allegedly in violation of the existing rules, forcing him to move the tribunal seeking justice,” he said.
