Minister for Forests K. Raju will hand over the keys of 10 houses built under the Saphalyam project of the Kollam district panchayat to the beneficiaries at Achencoil here on Saturday.

“We found that many beneficiaries belonging to Scheduled Tribe category leave the construction unfinished even after receiving all instalments from the LIFE Mission. So we decided to build them ready-to-occupy homes,” said C. Radhamani, president, district panchayat, at a press meet here on Friday. The Minister will also distribute 146 solar lamps at the function.

The Saphalyam housing project began in May 2018 and all the houses have two bedrooms, hall and kitchen with proper plumbing and electrification works.

Next phase

“The beneficiaries belong to the Malampandaram tribal community and we have provided them all facilities, including stoves for cooking. The houses were built by the Kerala State Housing Board and the total cost of the project is ₹55,42,000,” she said. The second phase of Saphalyam project will begin in Kocharippa Scheduled Tribe Colony in Chithara by February.
