The Chinnakada underpass project was undertaken with the aim of easing traffic congestion at the Chinnakada area here. But the paradox is that with the commissioning of the project, Chinnakada is turning into a bottleneck.

With vehicles from the Beach Road and the realigned Chinnakada overbridge converging at the same point to mostly criss-cross, the corner point of the Musaliar Buildings complex where the two roads meet with the Unichakkam Veedu temple road gets crammed with vehicles.

Railings down

As a result of this congestion, the newly erected railing of the footpath at this corner has been knocked down by a passing vehicle.

Pedestrians also find it extremely dangerous to cross the road at the point.

Lack of a proper signalling system to suit the needs of the newly designed road system is seen to be the cause of the situation.
