The prohibitory orders clamped on the coastal zone between Tirur and Tanur in the district will continue to be in effect for one more day.

District Police Chief Debeshkumar Behera clamped the ban orders on Monday in view of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) preparing rallies in the region.

The police said the ban order was imposed also to avoid probable political clashes in the wake of the Karnataka Assembly election results and subsequent jubilations. The region relapsed into violence after an interval of peace when three CPI(M) men were hacked by gangs allegedly belonging to the IUML on the Paravanna beach a few days ago.

Tension has been prevailing in the area since. The police hope that the beginning of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan on Wednesday or Thursday would bring back peace in the area. Ramzan is expected to calm down the nerves of people and divert their attention to fasting and prayers.

However, the police said enhanced vigil would be maintained in the area in the coming days, considering the sensitivity of the region.
