Thrissur sees 22 deaths

Deceased include 12 of four houses that were washed away in a major landslip

The heavy rain along with landslips claimed 22 lives in a single day on Thursday in Thrissur district. More than 11 persons are missing.

Though district was spared from serious damage till Wednesday, monsoon unleashed all its fury on Thursday. The deceased include 12 of four houses, which were washed away in a major landslip at Kuranchery, near Mulangunnathukavu, on Thursday morning.

Two brothers were killed in another landslip at Pallam, near Deshamangalam. Search is still on for 11 others, who are suspected to be trapped under the slush at Kuranchery and Pallam.

Another landslip at Poomala claimed two lives. A 62-year-old woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured in a landslip at Athirappilly. One person was killed when his house collapsed at Kuttur.

One was electrocuted at Peringottukara. Landslip at Kuthiran claimed the life of a motorist.
