Preparations are in full swing for the 7th edition of International Theatre Festival organised by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi here from Saturday.
Theatre groups from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Tunisia, Japan, Singapore and Germany will stage plays in various categories on the theme ‘Theatre of Resistance, Theatre of Today’.
Eminent theatre personalities, including International Ibsen Award Director Hild Gury Norve; Tokyo University Professor and theatre critic Tadashi Uchino; Saison Foundation Programme Director Atsuko Hisano and Performing Arts Meeting Director Hiromi Maruoka, will be participating in the festival.
It is the first time that theatre personalities and artistes from countries such as Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Tunisia are coming to India.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the festival on Saturday. Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph, Minister for Cooperation C.N. Balakrishnan, C.N. Jayadevan, MP, actor Madhu, Mayor Rajan Pallan, P.K. Biju, MP, Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, Tourism Department Director Sheikh Pareed and South zone Cultural Centre chairman E.N. Sajith and others will participate in the function.
