Thrikadavur becomes part of Kollam city

With the completion of the delimitation process, the Thrikadavur grama panchayat will cease to exist and become part of Kollam city.

Though geographically Kollam city will expand, the number of divisions in the city will remain the same at 55. Under the delimitation process, the area of certain divisions in the city will be realigned and some divisions renamed.

At the same time the number of grama panchayats in the district will go up from the existing 68 to 76. Kottarakara, which is now a grama panchayat, will become a municipality, thereby taking the number of municipalities in the district to four. Seven panchayats are being bifurcated to create seven new panchayats.

Thrikovilvattam panchayat will be bifurcated to create Kannanallur panchayat; Edamulakkal bifurcated to create Arakkal panchayat, Piravanthur bifurcated to create Punnala panchayat, Chidara bifurcated to create Madathara, Kulashekarapuram bifurcated to create Puthiyakavu, Vadakumthala from the existing Panmana panchayat, and Kalluvathukkal bifurcated to create Paripally panchayat.

Apart from that, various wards of the Neduvathur, Kulakada, and Pavithreshwaram panchayats will be taken away to create the new Puthur panchayat. The headquarters of the new eight panchayats will be notified later.

The newly formed Kottarakara municipality will have 29 wards with 15 reserved for women.
