In the first judgment in a series of 33 solar scam-related cases currently before various courts in Kerala, the Pathanamthitta Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has awarded three year rigorous imprisonment to Saritha S. Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan various charges including cheating, conspiracy, impersonation and forgery.

The case relates to the complaint from a US-based Malayali that the duo had duped him of Rs. 1.19 crore promising him partnership and managing director's post in their company. The case was investigated by a special investigation team headed by Additional Director General of Police A. Hemachandran.

The Magistrate R. Jayakrishnan held that the prosecution had succeeded in proving all but the charge of destruction of evidence against the accused and asked Biju Radhakrishnan to pay a fine of Rs. 75 lakh and Saritha S. Nair to pay Rs. 45 lakh. The Court also granted Ms. Nair's plea for bail.
