Priya Prakash Varrier: The wink that conquered a thousand hearts

Priya Prakash Varrier has become a celebrity in a ‘wink’. The song Manikya Malaraya in the upcoming Omar Lulu movie Oru Adaar Love and the wink of Priya have become a rage among the youth.

“I never knew it would be such a huge hit. Appreciation is pouring in from different parts of the world. I am really excited,” says Priya, a B.Com. student at Thrissur Vimala College.

The song, adopted for the movie by Shaan Rahman, has topped the charts. The remake of an old composition by Thalassery K. Rafeeq, it depicts romantic gestures of a group of teenagers.

Her scene lasted just 30 seconds in the three-minute song. But Priya’s mischievous romantic gesture towards her boy friend made the song, set on the campus of Don Bosco School, Mannuthy, an instant hit.

Daughter of Prakash Unnikrishnan, a Central Excise officer residing at Punkunnam and Preetha, Priya is yet to come to terms with her overnight celebrity status.

She is learning music and dance since childhood and has acted in a few short films.

Priya, who did not have a Facebook page, created one after the song became a hit. She is on a par with celebrities now in the number of followers on Facebook, Instagram, and You Tube. She was selected for the movie though audition. Though she was offered a small role initially, she enacted a major role in the movie.

Manikya Malaraya is another hit number by Shaan Rahman, after the popular song Jimmikki Kammal. Vineeth Sreenivasan has sung the song.
