Terror threat: steps to strengthen security

January 06, 2015 01:14 am | Updated 01:14 am IST - Thrissur:

A meeting of high-level police officers convened by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala here on Monday decided to strengthen the security measures across the State against the backdrop of alleged Maoist-terrorist threats.

The meeting decided to provide more security for institutions, which face Maoist threats.

Following intelligence report about possible terrorist attack in south India, security will be tightened at important religious places, institutions, and heritage monuments.

The meeting discussed the idea of setting up a special commando wing to trace Maoists.

It is reported that the commando wing will be formed by including commandoes from Thunder Bolt, specially-trained forest officials, sharp shooters, and trekking specialists.

The demand for a special team was strengthened following attack on a stone crusher unit after attacks in Wayanad and Palakkad districts.
