Primary schools were the energy fount of a land that moulded great people, Education Minister C. Ravindranath has said.

The Minister was inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Government Lower Primary School at Koodal, near Konni, on Tuesday afternoon.

He said Koodal Government LPS had been selected by the government for making it hi-tech in the first phase itself in view of its 100-year-old great tradition.

Reverse trend in State

Mr. Ravindranath said students leaving government schools to join private schools had been the trend in various other States. But, Kerala had been witnessing a reverse trend and the State recorded 1,45,208 new admissions at various government schools across the State in the previous year alone, he said.

Realising this positive trend, the teachers as well as the general public should take the initiative to protect the government schools, he said.

The Minister said the Koodal Government LPS was a model to its peers in the State. Adoor Prakash, MLA, presided.

Sauda Rajan, Parakkode block panchayat president; Bini Lal, district panchayat member; T.N. Somarajan, block panchayat member; T.Sreedevi, school headmistress; and M. Manojkumar, organising committee chairman; spoke.
