Doctors who have not registered with the Travancore Cochin Medical Council (TCMC) cannot practice in Kerala, according to the stipulations under the Travancore Cochin Medical Practitioners’ Act of 1953, the TCMC Registrar has said.
Doctors who have not registered their speciality or additional qualifications under the TCMC may not practice in that speciality, an official release said. The TCMC issued the order following complaints that many doctors in private hospitals in the State were practising without registering their qualifications.
The Council of Modern Medicine, which examined the complaint, has decided to examine the registrations of doctors working in all private hospitals in the State. All private hospitals are also expected to make available to the council the qualifications of doctors working in their hospitals and details, including the TCMC registration number, in a specific proforma.
The details of doctors should be submitted online using the link in www.medical council.kerala.gov.in. The filled-in proforma, affixed with the seal, should be made available to the council by September 30.
Strict action would be taken in case any of the information given was found to be fake during inspection, the TCMC said.
