: The Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) described the Supreme Court’s comments against reservation in professional higher education institutions as an attempt to defeat the Constitution. It said that it was the responsibility of all democratic forces to defeat the attempts against the system of reservation put forth by the Constitution for the upliftment of the marginalised and backward classes and communities.

The SYS said that the Supreme Court had violated its limits by disrespecting the process of legislation existing in the country. “Such remarks will only abet the anti-reservation forces,” the SYS said in a statement here on Thursday. SYS leader Alavi Saqafi presided over a meeting held here. Young scholars Abdurahman Saqafi, Mustafa Kodur, K. Mohammed Ibrahim, Alavikutty Faisi, T. Alavi, V.P.M. Basheer and K.P. Jamal spoke.
