Summer showers show no sign of abating, Yellow alert in 7 districts

Six died in rian-related incidents and five of them died after lightning struck

Summer showers gained momentum with the State receiving light to isolated heavy rains across the State.

Cherthala in Alappuzha recorded the highest rainfall of 75.5 mm in the last 10 hours that ended at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more isolated heavy showers across the south and parts of central Kerala for the next five days.

A trough discontinuity runs from west Vidarbha to South Interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation over coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood now lies over south Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood.

Under the influence of the above, scattered to fairly widespread and widespread rainfall accompanied with thunder and lightning is very likely over Kerala during next five days and isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala from April 13 to April 15.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued a yellow alert in seven districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki, warning of isolated heavy rains on Wednesday. The State has also received 153.2 mm rain during this summer against the average of 70.9 mm, around 116% excess rainfall.

According to the statistics available with the Revenue Department, as many as six people have lost their lives following the summer rains across the State in the last one month. Five of them died after lightning struck them, while one died after a tree fell on him.
