Strong winds accompanied by heavy showers that hit Kollam city early in the morning on Monday inflicted heavy damages at the coastal Ozhukkuthodu area near Maruthadi.
The asbestos roof of a house caved in but those inside escaped unhurt. The tiles of a shop nearby were blown off and one house was partially damaged. Many trees in the area got uprooted and low-lying areas were flooded.
School campus flooded
The entire campus of the Mulankadakam Government HSS got flooded but there was no class on Monday on account of a hartal declared in Kollam by the Students Federation of India.
Kadappakada, Nair’s Hospital Junction, the Chinnakada clock tower area, the Asramam Adventure Park, and the Asramam maidan got water logged. N.K. Premachandran, MP, visited the Ozhukuthodu area in the morning.
Mr. Premachandran called for emergency financial relief to the victims whose properties were damaged.
