The State government’s plan is to build a new Kerala fit enough to overcome future challenges, Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran has said.

He was inaugurating a campaign to raise funds for the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) from the Aroor Assembly constituency on Tuesday.

Mr. Sudhakaran said that damage due to floods in the State would touch ₹40,000 crore. A sum of ₹2.46 crore was collected from Aroor. In another fundraiser held at the Cherthala Assembly constituency, an amount of ₹4.75 crore was collected. Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman, A.M. Arif, MLA, district panchayat president G. Venugopal, and others attended the events.

Earlier, the fundraisers held at Mavelikara, Kayamkulam, and Kuttanad were able to raise ₹1.82 crore, ₹1.75 crore and ₹29.79 lakh respectively.

A total of ₹7.64 crore was collected from the Ambalapuzha constituency on Sunday. An amount of ₹2.36 crore was raised from the Alappuzha Assembly constituency and ₹1.80 crore from the Haripad Assembly constituency on Monday.

A fundraiser will be held at the Chengannur Assembly constituency on Thursday.
