SIT to speed up illegal spirit case

Kayamkulam deputy superintendent of police, S.Deva Manohar said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up under Kayamkulam CI, Shanihan to speed up the investigation into the case of seizure of 5,145 litres of illegal spirit in a small-coir unit in Govindamuttam in Puthuppally near Kayamkulam in the district on Tuesday midnight.

The police has charged case under the Abkari Act against two persons who had taken on rent the unit from where the spirit was seized.

The spirit stored in 147 containers was being loaded on to a lorry parked inside the unit when the police team reached the spot, acting on a tip-off.

The persons engaged in loading the spirit containers and others on the spot ran way seeing the police.

The police also took the lorry into custody.
