CPI(M) leader and former MLA Simon Britto passed away in Thrissur on Monday. He was 64.

Mr. Britto was admitted to a private hospital after he complained of a stomach ailment. He breathed his last by evening.

He is survived by his wife Seena Bhasker and daughter.

A victim of violent campus politics, Mr. Britto had been confined to a wheelchair following a spinal injury from a knife wound sustained in 1983 during a clash when he was a student leader. From 2006 to 2011, he was a nominated MLA representing the Anglo-Indian community.

Though wheelchair-bound, Mr. Britto had travelled across the country. He was widely read and a good orator as well. He had also authored two novels and articles on several topics. Mr. Britto was working on his latest travelogue when the end came.
