The special police team investigating the Abdul Shukkoor murder case summons Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) State secretary T.V. Rajesh, MLA, for interrogation on July 27.

The team will ask Mr. Rajesh to appear before it at the government guest house here on July 27, said police officers here on Wednesday adding that he will be served notice in this regard. The decision to quiz the MLA was taken by the team on Wednesday. The officers said the MLA had to be questioned for corroborating information gathered during the questioning of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan.

Mr. Rajesh had been served notice by the team to appear before it on June 17, but the MLA formally sought exemption from appearing before it till July 31 citing the Assembly session now on. Mr. Jayarajan had been questioned by the team twice. Police sources said the questioning of Mr. Rajesh could not be delayed further as the investigation had reached a decisive stage. The team was of the view that the questioning of the two leaders was vital for probing the conspiracy part of the case.

The Indian Union Muslim League worker was hacked to death at Keezhara on February 20 last allegedly in retaliation for an attack on Mr. Jayarajan and Mr. Rajesh at nearby Ariyil the same day. CPI(M) Ariyil local committee secretary U.V. Venu and DYFI Taliparamba block president A.V. Babu had been arrested in the case on charges of hatching a conspiracy to kill Shukkoor. One of them had disclosed to the investigators that the plot to kill the 21-year-old Shukkoor had been hatched at the Taliparamba cooperative hospital where Mr. Jayarajan and Mr. Rajesh had been admitted following the incident at Ariyil.
