SHRC seeks probe into death of woman

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday directed Alappuzha District Police Chief K.M. Tomy to look into the death of a 30-year-old woman in Bahrain. Priyanka Ponnachan, of Mavelikara was found dead under mysterious circumstances on February 7. In a complaint filed before the commission, Mariyamma , mother of the deceased, has alleged that her daughter was murdered. She said that Priyanka had suffered physical and mental torture at the hands of her husband. SHRC judicial member P. Mohandas said a postmortem of body could be done in State, if needed.
