Ernakulam Round Table 214 has donated umbrella sewing machines and electric sewing machines to a women self-help group (SHG) in Muhamma grama panchayat.

The programme was organised in association with Bhava Social Venture, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment and Muhamma panchayat.

Subhas Warrier, CEO, Bhava Social Venture said the initiative would help self-help group members to pursue their self-employment drive.

“The recent floods have affected the people of Muhamma. Despite facing difficulties, the women of Muhamma are leading by example. The self-help group is determined to protect the environment and restore the alternative livelihood they were engaged in,” Mr. Warrier said.

The items distributed included 7 umbrella sewing machines and 2 electric sewing machines.

The self-help group under the aegis of Bhava Social Venture has been producing recycled bags made out of good quality used clothes. The used clothes are collected through a Cloth to Carry Bag (C2C) campaign. They recently launched milee pouch bag and milee string bag.
